Our Mission

The Animal Rescue of Carroll, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Animal rescue of Carroll will host a dog and cat shelter servicing and caring for lost, unwanted or homeless dogs and cats, with a focus on adoption, education, cruelty prevention, spay and neuter programs, and reuniting lost dogs and cats with their owners.

Our History

In 2006, a group of pet-minded volunteers came together to improve the welfare for pets that needed a new home in the Carroll area. Volunteers worked tirelessly to help area pets find homes through fundraising and adoption events. Many pets were in foster homes waiting for their forever homes.

Animal Rescue of Carroll officially became a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization in on January 27th, 2009.

On February 3rd, 2011, ARC received its shelter license from the Iowa Department of Agriculture. Volunteers worked to convert a small hog confinement building located a few miles northeast of Carroll into a full operational dog shelter. This housed dogs only and was challenging for volunteers and dogs during cold weather.

In 2015, after a successful fundraising campaign, the current shelter began construction and was opened in October of 2016 – fully paid for. The new shelter allowed for housing dogs and cats. Unfortunately, the need continues to grow and we find the shelter is often full.

ARC currently runs by an Executive Director, Board of Directors and many volunteers who give their time, talents and treasures to find these pets new forever homes. They manage the day-to-day operations including fostering, processing applications, cleaning facilities, feeding the dogs and cats in the shelter, fundraising, grant writing and much, much more. We would not be where we are today without our many volunteers.

ARC also assists Carroll County’s police department in local hoarding and abuse cases and local strays that would otherwise face euthanasia.

ARC operates from donations from the public, grants, fundraisers, and adoptions fees. Many times the adoption fees for an animal do not cover the cost of its care while awaiting for adoption.

ARC welcomes all donations large and small! New volunteers are also greatly welcomed!
